For most of my adult life, I didn’t pay much attention to President’s day. The first real long-weekend after the Holidays was more of a reprieve from work than a remembrance of Presidents’ past. Today is very different. Washington’s great contribution was to refuse the monarchy for the republic; Lincoln’s died trying to hold the union together while battling a bunch of white supremacists. I’m very grateful for them. It will never be just another holiday anymore. I’m grateful for the collective sigh of relief and noticeable lack of anxiety everyone seems to be feeling. And, I’m grateful for the big drop in Covid cases and deaths. I feel we may have rounded the corner.
